not too bulky snorkel vest/flotation option?

Post by lark22 »

Hi! We're taking our 10 year old niece to STJ in August. She's a good swimmer, but she's very independent/adventurous, so I'd feel more comfortable if she had some kind of flotation. She's a tween, so she'll complain if it looks dorky, so I was hoping for something that looks fairly low-key.

I'd appreciate any recommendations -- thanks!! :)

I don't know if this is dorky or not :) but we will be wearing these for an upcoming trip where we will be doing open water snorkeling -

We saw a guy wearing one during our last trip and it looked trim and form fitting. The black part is like a lightweight wet suit material.

I purchased the same vests that PAGirl linked to for next month's trip. They are very lightweight and comfortable. My 14 year old nephew has agreed to wear one for his longer snorkels, so it must pass the "dork test."

We used these. They fold up very small and work well.

Those are great (and passably cool 8)) options! I think my niece will approve, and I'll be happy because she'll be safer.

Thanks, all!

My daughter is 8 and has used the Aqua Jogger Jr the past 2 years and it works great. Arms and shoulders are completely free.

We began using a swim belt when our little one was 7 and he liked it much better than the vests. A plus is that it keeps their butts up near the surface so they can't put their feet down and damage anyting. Nothing more than a 3 pieces of dense styrofoam on a rope.
