Free Father's Day brunch at The Marketplace tomorrow

Post by Coconuts »

Hey, it's a day early, but the folks putting it on include fathers, and they deserve a day to themselves on Sunday. Marcel, the chef who runs the hot meals-to-go operation at Starfish, is heading this up, so it ought to be good. It nominally starts at 9:30 AM, out in front of the Marketplace, and we'll certainly be there.

The hot meals at Starfish are great, although you need to get them before they run out; showing up at dinner time is too late. The other day, we picked up some in the morning, and headed to the picnic tables at Maho, in front of those two calendar-quality coconut palms. A fine day... We've only gotten some real beach time now that both villas are rented, and we moved down to Cruz Views #7. $128 a night for five days, a nice pool, and no tools or projects to work on.

Secrets of the deli counter:
It took us a while to get this all straight, but the Starfish hot meals come in three containers. The standard meal costs a flat $12 irrespective of what you choose, and will include a meat or fish selection, a starch, and a vegetable. It comes in a standard three-compartment Styrofoam container, and as far as we are concerned, will feed two people. Not bad for $12! The smallest container holds what is called a "side"; you fill it with one item, but it costs a flat rate of $2.25, and you can choose any item, including the meats or fish. I got a side of stew beef the other day, and there was enough in there for two meals. The trickier of the three containers is the "small meal", which goes in a single clear acrylic container. In that case, you pay by the pound, and the price per pound varies depending on what you choose. This can be the least cost-effective choice of the bunch.

Enjoy!

Kevin

PS: Tomorrow is a turnaround at Coconuts. We'll be up there from 10:30 AM to 3 PM getting a few more tweaks in place. Should any forum members be on island and like to swing by during those hours, PM me and I can send you directions and agree on a time.
