Passport Renewal by Mail

Post by flip-flop »

I am about to send off passport renewals for hubby and myself (our first passports expire in July) for our trip in November. We have 6 months for them to be processed. Should be straight forward --- no name changes, sending in the old passport --- I don't think I am paying to get them expedited. Am I crazy?

We may not even go to the BVI, but I like to have the option & I definitely PREFER to travel w/ the passport vs. other documents.

Anyone do a renewal recently want to tell me the turnaround time?

My husband expedited his and got it in 3 weeks. His was up in May. I sent my in at the same time and did not expedite it as mine is not up until June. I have not received mine yet. Probably will not be going until August so I'm hoping to get it by then. From all that I've read the turnaround time is at least 10 weeks or even more if you do not expedite.

You should be ok. Nothing to worry about. You will get your passport in time. Good luck!

I wonder if they prioritize the non-expedited ones by date of travel. I don't know why else they would ask for your travel dates. Maybe I should put July on one and November on the other just to test the theory.

No, I just got off the "watch list" I think lying on my passport renewal would be bad form!

I think you have plenty of time- should be okay. I never understood why they asked for travel dates, either. It didn't seem to matter for me last year. I had a theory that they somehow detect the creepos that way, but I'm just a cynic sometimes. :)

I applied for passports March 2nd, thinking I had plenty of time until June 8th.
We still don't have them...
But, I am not panicking..., yet.
(I guess we really technically don't need them, but after dishing out the money, I'd like to have them, thank you.) :?

I hear horror stories regarding renewing Passports I guess I was lucky :)
I sent mine via Express Mail (overnight) enclosed a Express Mail pre-paid envelope and paid to have it expidited and received it exactly 7 days after it was mailed. To me totally worth the extra expense.
