In the "crime stoppers" section of the STT paper.
This appeared in the St Thomas times while we were on island. Scares the
out of me . It doesnt say if the people in the car were locals or tourists.
St. Thomas: On March 13 about 9:45 p.m., a man was driving his car with a friend in the area of Tabor & Harmony near the turnoff into Hidden Valley when two unknown males flagged him down. The men jumped into the vehicle, pulled out handguns and ordered the victims to empty their pockets. After taking their belongings the gunmen forced them out of the car and then sped off.

Our moms and dads always said "don't pick up hitch hikers"...it's sad, but I wouldn't stop and instead I would call the police and let them know two men may need help.

This happens all the time in Maryland. Consider the amount of crime in the VI compared to the States. Not even close. These incidents are just pronounced because it's not that often and the population is relatively small compared to the big cities we live in. You just need to heed the same advice you would do in your own neighborhood. Keep doors locked, walk with a group of people, be aware of your surroundings etc.
