Drowning at Bubbly Pool

Post by Pia »

One year to the day that a tourist drowned there last year - so tragic. Please, if you are planning a visit, watch the conditions especially during high surf and stay safe.

Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

We always intend to go to the BVIs, but in 10 trips have never managed to make it happen...it's just too hard to pry ourselves away from STJ, so I have no experience with Jost.

How deep is the water in the bubbly pool?

Not that deep.

The danger, as told to me by locals, is the force of the water rushing out during periods of heavy seas, it suck people out of the gap and out to sea. Another danger is people getting swept off the rocks by huge waves, which was the reported cause of the recent death.

We had it on our to do list for last month but after consulting several people whose opinions I trust, we skipped it.

Pia,
There was another drowning on March 9th.(this year) He was a young man from Texas living on St Thomas. He jumped in trying to save his friend that was knocked off the rock by a wave. It is in the BVI's news. Very sad story.
