Help me out!
Help me out!
We will be lucky enough to make 2 trips to Paradise this year. Every other year,in the summer, we try to take one of our adult children and their kids, or my sister and hers, for a 10 day visit. We usually try to do nice villa with a pool and wonderful views . Never worry too much about A/C, as we have always had wonderful trade winds during the summer, but have been hotter than Hades in May.
This year we are unlucky enough to only be able to stay for a week,( LOL) owing to DD and SIL vacation schedule. We will be traveling around Carnival time, arriving either the day before or the day after. We will be 4 adults, a 2 yr old and an 8 month old. SIL insists that both kids will sleep in pot a cribs or pack and play in the same room as their parents, with no one sharing Mommy and Daddy's bed.
For the first time, Rich and I realize that this year we will need A/C, at least in the bedrooms, as we both have some breathing issues in warm humid air. Another consideration is that SIL has had skin cancer and would like him to stay out of the sun as much as possible, so he will probably be our chief cook, bottle washer and villa guy. We would love to provide him with a villa that had ample outdoor shade, so that he can enjoy the pool, deck space and the view instead of being cooped up in the A/C. He has been to STJ once, and stayed on Ajax peak. To be quite truthful, I don't think he gets St John, but thats OK. Now that he is the daddy of 2 he can probably use the rest.
Here are the villas I am looking at. Those who know me know I am partial to the north shore views, but also love the south shore looking over to STT.
Colibri, on Maria Bluff. They now allow children. Pool is removed from the living area. Good for parents, but oh my aching knees. I
dont think that the twin beds can be made into a king for DH and I but I think the honeymoon is over, anyway. Full A/C.
Villa Rendevous. Has been on my short list for at least 15 years. Great pool, very very close to the house. Drop dead in-your-face-
blue water views. Sleeping arrangements would work out very well, especially for parents and kids. Full A/C. Think we will have to keep sliders closed at all times with the 2 yr old. Not a lot of outdoor shade for SIL. Think there is shade after 2PM when sun goes behind the hill.
Cocotier at Virgin Grand Estates. Know the area well as we have stayed above and below it at both Ellison and Villa Capiz. Full A/C and a huge master BR would allow for comfortable sleeping arrangements w/kids right off the main living area, much like Colibri and Rendevous. Pool very close to the house. Sufficient shaded lounge and play area, but very near the pool. Need eyes in the back of your head with a 2 yr old.
And now, drum roll please....Mango Bay. Drop dead gorgeous views from Catherineberg. House is right below Island Sun, where we were married. Have stayed many times in the area back in the day. One of the few Catherineberg villas that has A/C, although only in the bedrooms. Plenty of shade in that area, plus shaded patios and play areas galore. Pool is on a separate level from the main living area and master BR, so great for Daddy, mommy and kids. 4 kigs beds, and master adjacent to living area. John's Head Rd right down to the north shore beaches. And now, drum roll again. It will cost a little over $1000 more for the week here. But I will be in heaven again. I have been waiting for almost 10 years to go back to a villa in that area. Have not been up that way since Carnival in 2002.
Has anyone stayed in any of these villas? Pleeease help me out. We will be on island next week and will make our choice. I have only been on the patio at Mango Bay, and have stayed next door to Colibri and just above Villa Rendevous. Drove past Cocotier many times.Tough call.
