I'm reasonably sure that you will love Caneel. It is unfortunate that some people like the reviewer on the Other Forum seem to miss the point of it, but I don't think you will.
I understand Betty's point so well, it made me laugh out loud. Some people just will never understand what St. John is all about because they are comparing all the time. If I paid $XX at this resort in this place and I'm paying $XX here, it should be equal. NOT.
The rats and the donkeys and the mongoose and the mosquitoes at Caneel (or anywhere on St. John) are not invited guests. Nor are they all native, but they are a presence that everyone is trying to deal with as humanely as possible.
Caneel isn't for everyone, but given the circumstances, I think you will find it the perfect place for you, and that's all that matters.
