Grande Bay questions

Post by News of St. John »

So it looks like we are going to hold off on returning to our happy place until February 2014. I really like the idea of being in town and am starting to like Grande Bay more and more everyday, but I have a few questions.

1. Where do you rinse off your gear when you get home from the beach?

2. Is there a rule regarding private hot tubs? I am curious because it would be so perfect if there were hot tubs on the decks at the penthouse units.

3. I really like the penthouse units because of the amount of outdoor space. How does that amount of space compare to the amount of outdoor space in a regular one-bedroom?

4. I have seen some unit advertised as studios/one bedrooms or two bedrooms. How does that work? If I rented the one bedroom, would I have to share space with the studio?

Thanks everyone!!

I don't recall seeing an outdoor hose. When we stayed at Grande Bay, it was just for a couple of nights and didn't venture further than Trunk and rinsed our gear there.

Can't help with this one

3. I really like the penthouse units because of the amount of outdoor space. How does that amount of space compare to the amount of outdoor space in a regular one-bedroom? The PH unit we rented had significantly more outdoor space - at least double on one side and another covered area that had 2-3 high tops - nice entertainment space.

4. I have seen some unit advertised as studios/one bedrooms or two bedrooms. How does that work? If I rented the one bedroom, would I have to share space with the studio? I believe you have the option of renting both the 1BR and studio - hence the 2 BR; however, if you just rent the 1BR, you don't have to share any space with the studio occupants - they have their own entrance and balcony. There is a locked door between the units.

Thanks everyone!![/quote]

We've stayed at Grande Bay several times at the end of our stay; usually to extend a week into 9-10 days. Love the location and units.

As a disclaimer, I own two units at Grande Bay but not a penthouse suite.

There is a hose to the right just before you enter the garage which you can use to rinse off your gear.

I'm not sure if there is a rule about hot tubs on the balconies of the penthouse units, but I am going to assume there is otherwise you would see them on those balconies.

We own a two bedroom "lock out" unit which is as Jayseadee describes. It can be rented as a full two bedroom which would include the one bedroom and the studio. Or it can be rented as two separate suites - the interior door is like one you would see in a hotel with an adjoining room. When rented separately, both sides have their own balconies and their own entrances.

I also own a larger one bedroom which has more interior space and a larger balcony than the lock out one bedroom.

I'd be happy to answer any additional questions that I can - sorry that I don't know much about the penthouse units.

The others have already answered your questions...
I just wanted to add that we stayed at Grande Bay in Nov and loved it. Everything is in great condition, the people are friendly, and the location can't be beat. We had a 1 BR that had an adjoining studio, with the locking door between. Our balcony wasn't huge...but it was a good size. It had a high table and 4 chairs to sit and enjoy the view. We were mostly just out there a little while during the morning for breakfast and in the evening to watch the lights from the boats in Cruz Bay. Loved the view of CB.
PM me if you have any questions. I recommend a higher floor to avoid any power lines blocking your view. Our view wasn't obstructed, but noticed some of the lower levels were. Have a great time!! :D

CTBeachGirl - do not think twice about Grande Bay. If you want to be close to town I think GB is hard to beat. Our studio unit (far from a studio in terms of overall size!) was perfect - clean, well-appointed, great views, loved the pool. We had a 25 minute walk to Salomon Beach via the Linde Point Trail. At night, it's nice that GB is a pitching wedge from The Beach Bar!

Thanks everyone! Looks like we're going to try out Grande Bay. I really like the idea of being able to walk to grab breakfast, etc. Time to start checking out airfare...
