Planning Dcember Trip
Planning Dcember Trip
Hi,
I havent posted or been to STJ since about 2007, but I'm anxiously planning a trip for early next December. What month do December airfare tickets go on sale? I have a lot of Continental (United)rewards points I'd like to use if possible. Any advice I could get on this process would be greatly appreciated. We will be traveling from NJ (EWR). Thanks, and Happy Holidays to all!

Of course you never know what airfares are going to do but my rule of thumb is that the best price (except for truly last minute) is 90 - 60 days prior to travel. You could go to United and search future dates to see where the price breaks.

Unfortunately, the time between buying and traveling isn't the only consideration. There are times of the year when they traditionally have dropped fares and other when they don't. They frequently have fare sles in the first two months of the year, then they hold them up for spring break.
No matter how you do it, it is a roll of the dice. You can win sometimes, but, in the long run, the house always wins.

Most major airlines sell tickets 330 in advance. We sometimes fly out of EWR ( used to be Continental ) and they were always cheapest at 330 days out and slowly rose. Not sure if United does it the same way. Try testing it out with travel dates 330 days from now.
That being said, we bought tickets 2 weeks ago on United out of EWR for Jan. 31st and they were $362 round trip for non stop flights. Only 2 pairs of seats together and we are sitting in the last row on the trip back. Not my first choice but too cheap to pass up.
