St. John Ruins
St. John Ruins
I love the hiking on St John and really enjoy the "Indiana Jones Moment" of running across Danish ruins, covered in vines, appearing out of the jungle forest.
Some of my favorite locations are:
John Horn Trail
Esperance
Annaberg
Catherineburg
Whistling Cay
Peace Hill
Reef Bay (thanks 2muchsnow)
Which ruins have I missed? Thanks

Re: St. John Ruins
Brown Bay has ruins at the far end of the beach. Very overrun with vines and very eerie inside but also very cool.
Re: St. John Ruins
Reef bay hike, some along the trail are very overgrown, sugarmill at the bottom, not overgrown, but still cool.
Re: St. John Ruins
Thanks!
I forgot to add Reef Bay.. I have pics of those too.
Brown Bay... Far end of the beach? If you are facing the water... is that to the right or left?
I've found some above Francis Bay too. Including a grave with the name of Francis.
Here are some for peeps that dont want to go to the pinterest link:

If you are facing the beach then the ruins are towards the left. I have some pics. I will try to find them this weekend.

We must be blind, cause we looked for the Brown Bay ruins in April, on Blaine's birthday, and couldn't find them. Can you walk to them?
Re: St. John Ruins
Minde
Yes you can walk to them. I went at high tide and had to walk through the trees. I will try to find the pictures tomorrow.

Have you been to the ruins at Cinnamon? I thought I had seen them on a prior trip but when we were there in August we followed the trail as far as it went and definitely saw stuff we hadn't seen before, like above ground caskets.

Wow! Enjoyed the pictures. We have been to all except whispering cay and brown bay. I have been to brown bay to snorkel but never ventured farther. Both are on my to due list!
Re: St. John Ruins
Glad you posted this! We are going in search of ruins this trip (so much hiking to be done). Last trip I had a broken knee and was relagated to some snorkling. sitting in the sand, and consuming painkillers. Totally not a bad trip in itself, but we love to hike and I want to see the island on foot rather than by the seat of my pants. Thanks again.

Here is a pic of the Reef Bay House:

This Flickr set contains pictures from lameshur to the petrogyphs on the lameshur trail.
The Reef Bay House is actually in pretty good shape. It is on a spur trail off of the Lameshur Trail.
I am still trying to upload pictures of the the Brown Bay ruins. My computer is being incredibly slow today.
