Canon D20 or Nikon AW100

I own a D10 and have been very happy with the pictures. I have had 2 replaced due to a "lens error" reading which made the camera useless. All is well right now, but I have this "fear" that my camera could get the lens error message while I'm in St. John and I love taking pictures. I'm considering a back up. Anyone familiar with both? Any thoughts? Thanks!
