xisland girl, MJ's Ponzu Tuna was one of my favorite meals I've ever had anywhere. The bar at Aqua Bistro is a wonderful place to chill with the local crowd, but on Friday night make a reservation and sit at a table and enjoy a fine culinary experience. I'm a big eater, and though this dish is not a bodacious amount of food, what you get is the bomb!. My two best meals on STJ were cooked by MJ, the tuna at Aqua Bistro, and a great NY strip dinner at Shipwreck Landing years ago. [Apologies to SW Pat, but I always thought you lost big time when MJ left Shipwreck Landing].
As to Donkey Diner, it has changed hands since I was last there so I can't comment, other then I've thought it a bit pricy, but the food was always excellent.
As to Miss Lucy's, I love stopping there mid-afternoon for a beer at an outside table, with maybe a light snack. I was very underwhelmed by the Sunday brunch.
Look, Coral Bay is a very different world then Cruz Bay. It doesn't have the variety , but it is so relaxing, comparatively speaking. Cruz Bay stays up later. Coral Bay wakes up earlier. Enjoy a sunrise, hit a beach before the crowds, stop afterwards somewhere for a snack and a tasty beverage.Go back to your villa and enjoy its view and your time there with your spouse. Slow down. Now hit Island Blues, Aqua Bistro, Shipwreck, Skinny's, or the Tourist Trap. Just remember it all closes down much earlier. It's a more small town atmosphere, though it is changing, and not for the better, at least not from this old Bohemian's perspective. That said, I still can't think of any place that I've ever been that I would rather be. Drive slow, keep left, and enjoy it for what is. I'm jealous.
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.
