Jorge,

Are you a member of DAN? if so, you can get insurance for your gear through them.

There are one or two more companies widely used by traveling divers to insure their gear. When I was looking into insuring my camera against the housing flooding I looked into them.

You can go to scubaboard.com and do a search to find some of the names and details.

If you have an american express card they offer luggage insurance to their cardmembers.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

We take out a "personal articles policy" on anything of value (i.e. camera equipment, jewelry) that we have that is not covered under homeowners, etc. My husband is an insurance agent. It doesn't cost very much and when we travel, we don't have to worry as much about it b/c... hey, it's insured!

Jorge,

Have you looked into an insurance rider on it, like you would for jewelry etc, on your homeowners insurance? That way, it's covered if it's stolen from the beach or the trunk of your car, anywhere, in addition to being lost by the airline. I'd ask your insurance agent about it, take photos and save the receipts etc. Travel insurance should cover the cost of rentals while you're on your trip; the insurance rider should help you replace it.

Scuba gear coverage

Post by Bill in Va »

Yo Dude. As you have read you may already have coverage through your homeowners insurance less what ever your deductible is. If it is a high deductible then lower it for the time you are away and bump it back up when you get back home. One the TSA locks we used on my dive bag got cut by the boys this last trip. Seems someone new didn't recognize the lock and know they had a key to open it. Wish I was going with you Brother...God bless..Bill
