don't know street name but as you exit fenced in area of docks, turn right, go to end of fence and right again at stop sign. when you get to next stop sign, turn right and you'll be on south shore rd, just before starfish on hill to left. to go to cruz bay, after exiting dock area and do 1st right, go straigth at stop sign, go to top of hill and left by fire station and you're headed into down town cruz bay. scholl will be on your left.

We're taking our rental car from STT airport to STJ via the car ferry. I've heard the Red Hook ferry docks are hard to find--should I get directions in advance?

The Red Hook ferry docks are right after you pass American Yacht Harbor (stores and marina) and both are on the right hand side. Across the street from AYH is a strip mall and Duffy's Love Shack (up a small hill). Depending on time of day and traffic, I estimate it could take 30-40 minutes from the airport. And try not to get behind those large, slow-moving water trucks.
