Short but sweet travel report

Post by PSUWethr »

Well, we made it back from our short vacation. We got through security at Allentown with no problems considering my luggage was packed with a whole bunch of odd objects. We got on the plane, pushed back from the gate and then just sit there. Our one brake indicator light was malfunctioning so they had to restart the plane three times. It finally worked and we were on our way to Charlotte. Now we are an hour late and we only had an hour and twenty minute layover. So we land and bolt off the plane to try and make the flight to STT. Of course we come in at gate B25 and the STT flight is leaving out of gate D11 and we have 15 minutes to get to the plane. We do make it but I am not holding out much hope for the luggage!

We are the last ones on the plane and they literally close the door behind us as we get on. We get to STT and get Rachel to take us to Red Hook. As usual she is a sweetie and we get a tour of STT. We finally get to STJ and I feel like I have come home. The six days we were there consisted of getting up and going to the beach early (mostly Maho) and then to Skinny’s for lunch. The afternoon was spent trying to get my 4 year old to take a nap (mostly cause mommy wanted to take a nap), but I think she has finally grown out of the nap stage. We did go to a birthday party at Hawksnest on Sunday for a friend’s granddaughter. It was great and the water was awesome cause there were huge waves.

Another highlight of the trip was going fishing with Kathy on the School Bus. This little yellow boat is moored right in front of Cocoloba. My dad, his friend Jeff and I went out for 8 hours and fished. It was the best fishing trip I have ever been on. We stayed close to Coral Bay and caught tons of fish including Rainbow Runners, Hinds, Jacks. We also were fishing off a point near Vies and had the awesome opportunity to have 2 nurse sharks about 8 feet long just circle the boat the whole time we were there. It was strange cause I thought the nurse sharks hung on the bottom, but we ended up feeding them some breakfast every time we reeled in our catch. We kept some of the runners and hinds and made an awesome fish dinner on the grill.

We came home and as usual I cried the whole ferry ride back to STT. Rachel took us back to the airport and we made it home to Allentown around 11 pm. Emma was so tired that she did not wake up from when we boarded our flight in Charlotte until after we had landed in Allentown. I had to wake her up to get her off the plane! I gather our luggage, tote my daughter who is beyond cranky since we are used to being an hour ahead, drag everything 3 mile to our car and realize the automatic door opens slowly. I get her in, the luggage in and go to start the car and NOTHING! Apparently, she had turned her light on above her seat and I didn’t notice. So now it is midnight, and we are stuck in a car that won’t start. What really sucks is we are by ourselves here at home since my parents are still on STJ and my hubby is in Kansas for work. So, thank goodness for AAA. We only had to wait and hour but they came and started the car up right away. We made it home by 1:30 and instead of putting on light pj’s and opening the windows to let the tropical breezes in, we put on our flannel, turned up the heat and snuggled for warmth. And so I have completed trip #31 to St. John. Can’t wait for #32!

Too bad our dates didn't overlap.

I remember one trip when our son slept through an emergency landing on PR, several hours at the airport, the entire flight AND 3 hour car ride home. Awesome except we hadn't slept at all. It was a rough re-entry day.

I would take a dead car at the airport as yet another sign- "See?? We should have never left STJ" ;-) Glad it was a great trip though!
