Trip Insurance ?

Trip Insurance ?

The wife and I will be going to St. John for 2 weeks this summer. The first week there will be one couple with us and the second week two new couples will be joining us and the first couple is leaving. We are dividing the villa cost by 2 the first week and by 3 the second week. My wife and I would like to insure our portion of the trip. I’ve never tried to insure a trip this way and I’m not sure if they would even do it. Has anyone ever gone with a group and just insured your portion?

I think with CSA you put in a figure (dollar value) of the coverage you need on their form. If you said your trip was X amount, I would think you would be covered. You can probably find the contact info from the link in the left column. To be sure I would just call them -

We have gone with a group and just insured our portion. When purchasing trip insurance, you will put in your cost of the trip.

Thanks. I'll probably give them a call. I'm wondering what they do if something was to happen and my wife and I couldn't go, but the rest of the group does go. Technically, the villa was still checked into and used during my reservation.

I always use travel insurance quote.com, they will break down the different companies, and prices.... Also it is by amount spent anyways......you put in the cash value of your trip and that is what you will be reimbursed for anyways.....

You put in the value of your non-refundable portion of the trip. If your group rents a villa for 6000 and you split it 3 ways, your portion would be 2000. If your non-refundable airfare is another 1000, your total insurance would be 3000.

If you can't make the trip, and your friends go without you, they will still have to pay the entire villa cost (6000) and your trip insurance would pay you for the money you lost (your 2000 portion) as well as your airfare. If for some reason the villa company were to reduce the rate based on the actual number of people, then your trip insurance payout would probably be reduced accordingly. You have to produce receipts and villa contract showing the actual amount of money you lost. So don't bother getting insurance to cover any costs that you can get money back on (e.g. hotels you can cancel until 6pm day of arrival etc.).
