Driftwood David's

Post by benmpub »

Ben your post has been edited to remove the plug for the new place to eat on St. John, but I am leaving it up with the responses so you can see the negative vibe this gives out to the hundreds of regular visitors here... I am not going to accuse anyone of being behind it, but whether it is the owners, friends, relatives, or anyone just thinking they are helping, please realize that you are not. You can advertise with us very inexpensively, and if anyone took the time to read you will see you can even get your restaurant or shop listed for free. Guerrilla marketing on this site doesn't work.

Benmpub--can you tell us what made you decide to vacation on St John, where you stayed, how you spent you time and did you eat/drink anywhere but this new place? Most people use this forum to post about what they did on vaction and how they either liked or did not like the Island.

These kind of posts really aggravate me. I realize that everyone has a first post, but come on. This is pretty blatant, especially after the other first time poster. I'd rather someone was up front about why they were posting; I'd have more respect for them.

I was hopeful about this place after the On-stjohn story today but posts like these really leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I wish the owner much success. STJ is a tough restaurant market and it can be hard to get your name out there, but being a member of this online community will go much further than these one hit wonder posts. We have some very successful STJ business folks here, and not one of them has ever had supect posts...just sayin'

St. Johns Vacation

My apologies for offending a few of you. Every place i've been has suggested I comment on this forum in regards to my experience at their place. My family and I have been visiting St. Thomas for a decade now but we have never stayed on St. John so this year we switched it up. The beaches here leave me speechless as do the views once atop some of the roads. I commented on Driftwood Davids because it has been the best experience we've had in terms of restaraunts/bars. I like alot of the happy hour deals such as Woody's and The Beach Bar but my service wasn't that great. The servers seemed to want to get drunk or were already drunk and ignored us the majority of the time. I didn't experience that at Driftwood Davids. I've heard great things about Morgans Mango and Rumb Lines though and plan to check them out on my next trip to St. John.

Thanks for sharing your experiences on St John. We also like STT every now and then, and have stayed at SecretHarbor, Bolongo, Frenchman's and the Blazing Villas at the former Renaissance. We always make a trip over to STT at least once during our STJ stay, either to shop or dine. Save for the beach at Secret Harbor, we just don't get that same beach experience on STT that we do on STJ.
We are not fans of Woody's either, and Morgan's is getting old for us. We have had several doses of Rick's unpleasnatness over the last 15 years, particularly when he gets his load on, so we don't generally patronize at the Lime Inn unless we are with someone else who insists. We no longer think of St John as an "eating" island, but we do like to get out to dinner every other night. Hope Driftwood Dave's works out...tough location though.

Ben thanks and I apologize if we all jumped on your post too quickly. I wish that some of these places that ask to be mentioned (as you mention above) here would realize how valuable it can be to advertise here! As yours was the second comment on this place from a new member with no posts, it just seemed "fishy" if you know what I mean.

I hope you stick around and continue to contribute to the forum. Thanks and Happy New Year -
