resorts/ideas for a trip to Costa Rica near zip-lines-
Hey folks,MJ here.
Looking to try out Costa Rica with another couple who we've enjoyed previous trips to STJ.
Trick is, looks like we might do an all inclusive situation,or resort.
Interested about checking out a new place and need help as we know nothing about Costa Rica.
Feedback would be most helpful!
Any help regarding anything is appreciated!
2 adult couples,looking for A.C.,pool?,no children at a resort...?
Is a private villa the better choice...???
Where in Costa Rica...?
Give me a heads up!
Smiles-
MJ

it's been about 15 years since i ahve been to CR--so there have been a lot of changes (tamarindo was a sleepy fishing village and is now a major resort area)
but my two cents: if you want to experience all that Cr has to offer you will need to travel around a bit: for example the arenal area the monteverde cloud forest, the coast and the rainforest (and the coast--you'd proably want the pacific --maybe in the guanacaste area-- look at traveling to the Osa peninsula (if you want a rustic rain forest experience) -- Driving there is fairly easy--
we did a couple of nights near arenal, then in monteverde (if memory serves) flew to get a boat to Osa and then rented a house in playa grande (which has been really built up--so...) there are tons of resorts now that you can choose from--look on the TA forum for CR and you will get a lot of good advice.

< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>
Kidnapped! goodness--they refer to costa rica as the switzerland of central america! it's very safe!--of any by driving there..i didn't mean driving too the Osa peninsula-just driving in in the country in general (you probably should take a boat to the Osa --or at least that used to be the best way)mahojim wrote:Thanks, Loria...
Baby-Steps...
I completely need STJ on my menu, but would love to try an appetizer,or two...
Costa Rica seems neat & exciting; as long as we don't get kidnapped!

Never been but I just watched Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations Nicaragu (sp?) and it seemed pretty rough.
Have you looked at Belize? My mom has a friend who grew up there and her family still lives there. They are on the mainland and take their vacations on Ambergis (again, I am sure misspelled) Cay, that island were all the tourists go. She keeps encouraging us to go.
I will add that I know two doctors that go annually on relief/aid trips and they both say conditions (health and safety) overall are grim outside of the main tourist areas.

JIm,
we are considering Nic for this spring. there is A LOT to recommend it. I wanted to do the corn islands --but we are traveling with fmialy who would find this too hippy dippy for them. the Lake is supposed to be fantastic and there are several properties up there that look great-- i was considering splitting time between there and the pacific coast....... have a friend that was a revolutionary there back in the day--and is married into the country.... i can ask her if you have specific questions.....
