Waiting it out for a Villa discount? Am I nuts?! New Years

Post by SusieQT »

Hi,

We have been to STJ a few times. Traveling 12/29-1/5. Have not been over this time of year except as a cruise stop.

2 adults, 2 kids, 8 & 10 years old. Not super picky about a villa, a pool is the only biggie & it must be detached/not a condo. We will rent a jeep.

It appears that there are plenty of villas (detached) available, is it crazy to wait it out for a drop in price? Some with reputable companies are starting to drop rates. We have purchased our flights so our dates are set.

We rent homes regularly, so we know the landscape a bit on the mainland(CO, SC recently).

Thanks!

Our two trips were both over the Christmas / New Years holiday, and each time there were several of my choices that were already booked even back early in the year (I booked the villa in Feb. or March.)

You can wait for a discount, but might not get what you want. It might be better to try for a reduced rate (e.g., "if I book now can I get high season vs. holiday rates.")

Since holiday prices are high, we only looked at relatively affordable villas. In case it helps, we had a great stay at Rhumb Runner in Coral Bay. 2 bedrooms with interior access, 2 full and 1 half bath, nice pool and great views. The kitchen has recently been redone. 2nd bedroom has a king that splits to twins, so that was great for our 2 kids. Owners live on STT and are very nice. It's up the hill from Crabby's and the road is paved the whole way.

Like Chicagoans said, I'd ask for a reduced rate. It can't hurt. Also, you need to go ahead and book your jeep if you haven't already! Happy planning! :D

That strategy is 'paying off'! Thanks. And yes, we have the Jeep rental taken care of!

We snagged a villa for 10 days in Feb'12 at the off season rate. We just asked.
