Does anyone ever feel like.....

Post by leslieeliz »

This message board is bad for your mental health. I browse the board every day and barely post. And while I love the board, it makes me so depressed that I'm not on St. John. I'm here, sitting at work, and looking at all the fun times people are having. Some days, it makes me want to cry.

On the other hand, it motivates me to plan my next trip

Exactly! But it's fun to hear about other peoples trips and reminisce about mine and give good advice and hear about good advise that will lead to dreaming then scheming then searching then planning the next trip!
It's a sickness, I know! But better to be a STJ-oholic than some other things I can think of!

When are you going back?

Well, I was just there in July and had a grand time. I'm thinking Memorial Day 2012!

I get what you're saying, but I view this forum like an avid fisherman probably views a magazine or website about fishing...you're basically visiting to get other tips and insights about your passion. Sure, you'd prefer to be on STJ rather than reading about STJ, but you feel good (or at least productive) when you learn something new because that means your next trip will be that much better.

If that doesn't work, do a rum shot :D

That said, I think the only drawback I've ever seen with forums like this is invariably you will always find a dissenting opinion on anything and everything- villas, restaurants, bars, snorkel spots, even STJ itself. And unfortunately, in our society, 99 people can praise something and if even one person objects, that's the one comment you'll remember and enough to register doubt.

So it can have what I refer to as a "lowest common denominator" effect and that can be depressing...especially after you've already booked a villa, car rental, BVI trip, etc. and then you read a dissenting opinion. That really harshes the mellow.

But if you read more, you'll most likely find others who have praised it to make you feel better.

Good times.
It’s not about yesterday or tomorrow...It’s about today, for come what may – Sun, rain, or hurricane – we've only time for a smile, and none for sorrow
