Atlanta to St. Thomas
Our trip is planned for November. Airfare on SpiritAir is $450. Should I go ahead and book it? Not sure if that is a good deal?
Atlanta is a hub for Delta so that seems a little steep to me. We travel through there from DC almost everytime on our way to STT. Though there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to airfare pricing.
Check out Kayak.com to compare all rates for your dates. I see prices under $400 but they aren't necessarily on Spirit.

I would wait to purchase. You've got a while until your trip, so you can afford to wait a bit. In February, we purchased airfare for our July trip from ATL-STT for $299 a person on Spirit, all taxes included. I've never seen Delta go below $600 for our timeframe.
I would check Spirit a few times a week. Also, be sure to become a "free Spirit" member as you get a discount on all flights.

55 minutes should be enough, as long as your first leg is on time! The airport is huge and finding your next gate can be a pain.
My mom's flight out of DC went late one time due to fog and they arrived with just 10 minutes to their connection. By the time they got off the plane and to the next gate they missed the flight.
They also weren't able to get out that day! I would err on the side of lots of extra time in ATL than not enough, esp. outbound. I don't care if I get stuck coming back but I don't want to miss a day in paradise.

Connecting in ATL is tricky. Remember, it's the busiest airport in the US. I live in the ATL, so I never have to deal with connections.
Here's the potential problem: Atlanta Hartsfield has 5 concourses A-E (6 if you count the T-gates). They are connected by an underground train and underground walkways. Most international flights leave from Concourse E. I'm not sure if STT is classified as international or not. The problem comes in when you arrive in the T-gates or Concourse A and have to hoof it to Concourse E. If your flight is even a bit late, you could get stuck with only 55 minutes.
Most people make their connection. Is it worth the risk? That's something you have to decide.

Great information from ALW. You can print off a map for Hartsfield Jackson International airport on their website to show you how the concourses are laid out. Watch for the courtesy cars that will wisk you down the concourse to the escalators down to the train and to your connecting concourse. It really is not too tough and there are lots of agents to help you.
Bryon's daughter is taking the 6am flight out of MKE through ATL to STT in August for our wedding. They just changed the flight times and we went from 1 & 1/2 hour layover to 58 minutes. They've changed flight times twice since we booked these a few months ago! With an early morning flight you are usually on time and it should be no problem. We aren't worried.
