I have NEVER seen it like this (granted I come a lot in the winter) but it was brilliant (besides a ton of flotsam and not an insignificant amount of jetsam on the shore. ) the left side was really gorgeous great coral . more soon

You must have had calmer seas today! Last Saturday was a surfers paradise! No way we were gonna try to snorkel there
I wondered what you called all that stuff on the shoreline (flotsam/jetsam) I just called it crazy seaweed!
Glad you made it and starting out with such great snorkeling! Keep us posted on the rest of your adventures~~

We weren't out to Haulover North, but I must say that today, after the AM showers, there was just NO breeze at all, and the ocean all around STJ was just as flat as a pancake. So it would make some sense that HN would be calm, I guess. Great for you for the snorkeling there! Most of the time, conditions there are much more as msgcollen describes them...

well Flotsam is stuff that is naturally occurring (seaweed, wood, whatever) jet some is stuff that has been jettisoned basically (as far as i understand) so garbage....msgcolleen wrote:You must have had calmer seas today! Well, technically, (from Wikipedia, and confirmed with m-w.com):
>>Flotsam is floating wreckage of a ship or its cargo. Jetsam is part of a ship, its equipment, or its cargo that is purposefully cast overboard or jettisoned to lighten the load in time of distress and that sinks or is washed ashore.<<
However, I believe all of us use it in a much broader sense, and in the posts above. I actually thought that flotsam was the stuff that floated, and jetsam was the stuff that eventually sank. What do I know??
