Shout out to Polar Bear coolers

Post by cptnkirk »

On our recent visit to St john the carryon Nazi made us check our roll-on that had our Polar Bear cooler stuffed to the gills with our frozen meats. All my pleading was on death ears as she looked at me stoned faced . But I have frozen food in there and my computer please let me take it on board, mise well have been talking to the wall. Now this thing wouldn’t fit in the little box they make you put the carrryon in but it does fit legally in the compartment above. Wheels first long ways not side ways like a lot of people do that don’t understand how your supposed to put them up in the compartments. Been on twenty flights before no problem whatsoever. Well you get the idea nuff whining.

In my head I’m thinking might never see that at the baggage pick up in St Thomas as I seat myself . Oh crap what did I leave my computer in there for? Fight my way to the front of the plane as people were loading on. Now that was interesting cause I was in the second to last row of the plane. Tell the stewardess my situation and she lets me get off the plane to retrieve my computer. To late already been loaded says the carryon Nazi.

Well I arrive in St Thomas and to my dismay you guessed it no bag. Fill out the forms for lost luggage and are on our merry way to St John. Tell my honey probably won’t see that bag again, she agrees. Well I refuse to let this put a damper on our 25th anniversary trip. Heck we are on St John for two weeks together all alone this is just a little inconvenience all be a pricey one.

Hang at Hawksnest all next day and didn’t give the bag much thought. Go into Starfish to pick up a few things and honey gets a call. Can tell by the excitement in here voice that it must be about our bag. Sure enough they have it and 36 hours later from the start of our flights we pick it up at the ferry dock at 6pm.

To make a long story a little longer we open the Polar Bear and the lunchmeats are unfrozen on top but good and cold .Stuff in the middle all good and frozen and the rack of ribs at the very bottom partially unfrozen. Not to Shabby for not having a lick of ice or any help other than the frozen meat packed tightly together 36 hrs later.. Honey emailed Polar Bear and told them our story, they emailed back saying they are going to use it on there web site. That will be really cool if they do. So thank you Polar Bear coolers you are worth the price times ten. I can’t imagine how much that meat was worth on St John, at least a couple hundred or so. POLAR BEAR COOLERS ROCK!!!!

We had a similar 36+ hour trip with stuff still being frozen solid but it was in the winter.

I have seen airlines cracking down on carry-ons twice recently.

The first was an American flight and the gate agents appeared to be taking EVERY persons' carry-ons and I sort of panicked because I had our son's DVD player, my laptop and camera in my bag but by the time we boarded, the agents were gone.

The second was in Mexico on a USAir flight. The agents were measuring the bags. We weren't stopped, I suspect because of our fare class, but they definately were gate checking the larger carry-ons.

Great story and I've said it before and I'll say it again, I would trust Polar Bear to transport my kidney to the transplant.
It’s not about yesterday or tomorrow...It’s about today, for come what may – Sun, rain, or hurricane – we've only time for a smile, and none for sorrow
