I found this "capsule" zip-tied to a piece of coral out at the end of one of the 3 reefs at Hawksnest (I think it was the one closest to Gibney) back in '09. I had forgotten about it until it inexplicably showed up on my computer today. It Looked like 1 1/2 or 2 inch pvc pipe with a cap on one end. Does anyone have an inkling of what it is?

My guess is that it is related to the coral grafting that they did at Hawksnest a couple of years ago.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Could it be a geocache?

Looks like a zip tie coming out the one side.

I hope that no one would zip tie a geo-cache onto coral. I've never had my Garmin underwater to know if it would work there!

This was/is a marker for coral research, which includes the grafting projects.
