I actually was in GB yesterday skiing. They also have a Travel Lodge and a Comfort Inn and Suites.

There is also a Best Western (Black Swan Inn) in Lee.

More questions for the Tanglewood fans -

What time should we plan to arrive? The concert starts at 8:30p and we have lawn seats - opens at 5:30pm. I'm thinking by 6pm.

Are any kind of lawn chairs not allowed? We have those fold-up type of chairs and the typical beach sand chairs.

thanks

We usually get there right about when the lawn opens because we like to pick a good spot.
You will see all types of chairs.

Here is our Tanglewood packing list, feel free to laugh:
(We use a wagon to carry it all)
chairs
tarp for the grass
blanket on top of tarp
cooler
small folding table
basket or bag with plastic wine glasses, wine opener, plastic silverware, fun napkins and paper plates, small trash bag,bug spray, citronella candles, small umbrellas (1 for each person)

Our food list is usually fruit, cheese, cured meats, veggies, hummus, some sort of salad (pasta, orzo, etc) in chinese containers, some dessert bars or cookies, wine and water.

Have a blast!!! I will miss Tangelwood this year :(

Thanks X -

I'm not laughing at your list, as the one I've put together is about the same, although I may need to add the citronella candles and find the wagon to carry it all.

I ordered a picnic from Nejaime's (thank you Liamsaunt) and will bring some fruit to go with it. And of course some nice wine.

Looking forward to it - first Tanglewood concert in about 30 years.

Sorry, I have no advice for TW accommodations... Just very jealous...JT heads for Europe right after TW dates. I see he plays The Piazza San Marco in Venice... I think I may sell a kidney to raise money for that show in that venue.:-)

I would get there for opening. The traffic gets worse and worse the later it gets. My packing list looks just like xislandgirls. We have a wagon also. A couple of things I also bring: flowers and candles for the table, amd bungee cords to strap everything into the wagon. Don't forget the trash bags, and the tarp is key. The ground is damp even if it has not been raining. Picnic (the stuff in the plastic containers is from Nejaimes:

Hubby and I stayed at Brook Farm Inn, Lenox (a B&B www.brookfarm.com) last summer for the first time, located about 1.5 mi from Tanglewood. Great place and wonderful buffet breakfast. Lovely gardens and pool. Linda & Phil are most hospitable and a wealth of information! We plan to visit again in August with the goal of visiting my brother-in-law and family in western NY.
I believe they do take single night bookings when it works.

Have a great time in the Berkshires wherever you decide!

Thank you all for the great tips.

We stayed at the Super 8 in Lee. Comfortable, clean and close to Mass Pike.

We arrived early Friday afternoon and traffic was slow everywhere. We went into Lenox to get our bearings, had lunch and strolled through town. Went back to Lee to check-in and fell asleep. Left around 4:30p to head back to Lenox. Traffic had lightened up a bit. We picked up our picnic at Neijaimes and were parked at Tanglewood by 5pm. Getting their early was key. Late arrivals reported a 2 hr backup from the pike.

We didn't have a wagon, but used a luggage cart. Worked great. Remembered the citronella candles, but forgot the bug spray, but bugs were not a problem at all. Remembered the corkscrew, which was borrowed a lot.

We were with a group from Don's Alumni association, so the 3 hours before the concert
flew by.

Tanglewood lawn is sooooo different from Jimmy Buffett lawn(which I avoid).

Of course, JT and the Pops(John Williams conducting) was great and the weather was
perfect. Departure traffic was typical of any venue, but not as bad as I expected.

Won't wait another 30 years to return.

Sounds like a wonderful evening! Did you happen to see Vince Gill? I heard he was attending but wasn't sure if he was performing as well.
