Bareboat Rental - St. John

Post by pselby »

Has anyone ever rented a boat and been their own Captain for the day? I'm planning on doing this in October. I would love opinions and suggestions? Should I worry about getting lost?

Thanks!!

We haven't rented our own true power boat, but we've certainly rented dinghies. Where would you go? Just around St. John or over to the BVI? If you go to the BVI, obviously the chances of getting "lost" go up, though most rental places provide you with pretty detailed maps. You must know how to properly clear immigration in the BVI. I'd be more concerned about knowing the waters - where the reefs are, etc. Again, the maps provided are instructive, but you still have to be very, very careful in unknown waters.

it's pretty impossible /improbably to get lost if you have a chart you pretty much will know where you are--
I rented a powerboat a long while back (in '93) we went to jost, then over to norman/peter/cooper (or something like that) down to the indians, and back up and around STJ--it was a great day--
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>

We've rented from Ocean Runner 3 time in the past 5 years. We've gone all the way to the Baths and back, stopping at the Indians and the Caves for snorkeling and then finished up at White Bay for a couple hours.
Easy if you have any boating experience. A little pricy but well worth the freedom you feel!
