News of St. John

Post by CShell1019 »

Just reading http://barnako.typepad.com/ with a picture of the runoff in Great Cruz Bay and can't help but remember my recent ferry arrival and looking at the great cement walls that seem to want to tumble down the hills into the Bay! Or maybe it was just my wishful thinking for the St. John of old! Tried posting the pix but not successfully (directions, please?)
Isn't it wonderful what progress can do?

Yes, the development on ST John is completely not to be believed. It is building boom like I've not seen anywhere else. Sad to see the run-off and it's exactly as alot of people had said it would be. What a horrid mess the hundreds of construction projects have become. :x
Hoping for a USVI ticker in 2013!

I was on Tortola in November 1996 when there were similar rains. I had to go out on day sails to get pristine snorkeling. This kind of runoff is a big problem for coral and the reef fish. I don't see the kind of runoff abatement on island that is standard here in Virginia.

Well, it looks like the rain is tapering so that we'll see the sun when we get there on Friday. But, I expect we will have to hit some out of the way spots for snorkeling.

Cheers, RickG
