Well I booked my tickets and car. I leave on 10/8 and return on 10/29. I will be in the Brisbane area till the 16th and then who knows anyone have any Ideas? I have to be back to Brisbane on the 28th so my son can get his gun out of lock up for the flight home.

well, brisbane is nice--I would head north though and see the daintree and try to get out to the reef up there (go with a smaller operator)-you can fly to Cairns and then drive up from there--i think OCtober is starting bad (like really serious might kill you dead) jelly season--so becareful close to shore.
the Atherton tablelands are also really lovely

I thought it was fairly easy to get used to--but you hvae to remind yourslef when pullingonto the road to KEEWP LEFT!

Yes, that is stinger season so only swim within netted areas. If you fly into Cairns then it is a little drive up to Port Douglas where most of the Barrier Reef tours are based. As I recall, Cairns does not have good beaches so we stayed north of there in Palm Cove in November 2000. Also, I was told that beginning 31 October it is unbearably hot on the interior so we did not go to Alice Springs/Ayers Rock.

When I was there in '95 we stayed at Cairns and took an old fashioned railway up to Kuranda and the Atherton Tablelands. In 2000 we rented a car and drove up stopping for lunch at Nick's Swiss-Italian yodelling restaurant in Yungaburra. Nearby is a viewing platform on the Barron River where it is said that platypuses (platypi?) are visible at dusk.

We would love to go back and go up to Daintree.
