after wedding lunch and ferry logisitcs

Post by beachy »

Hi All - I'm getting married at Hawksnest on a Monday morning (9:45)and then hope to go to a nice brunch/lunch after in the Cruz Bay area. Any suggestions for lunching in a wedding gown?? It'll be just the two of us.

Also - we have to go to the courthouse in STT that same afternoon for license stuff. Should we just change after lunch, get on the Red Hook Ferry and get a cab to downtown STT (then back on Red Hook later)? Or someone suggested we try to make the 11:15 ferry to downtown and have lunch in STT... and then back on that same ferry? Any opinons on the best route? And what about a wedding dress (pretty simple, but still a wedding dress) on the ferry and at the courthouse. Is that weird?

Thanks for your help!

Waterfront Bistro for lunch! Lovely waterfront location near the ferry!

If you are comfortable in you dress, wear it! you will make people smile!

Hi there
my husband and I were married on Trunk...it'll be 8 years this sunday...did I misread what you wrote or did you say you were getting your license after your wedding on Hawksnest? We had to have our license before we got married...I ended up purchasing an off white dress that was actually a bridesmaid dress from a local shop...the fabric was perfect for the beach...simple strapless a-line...

I agree with Byado18 on both items. Waterfront Bistro is very yummy with a nice view. Also, I think wearing the dress over to STT will make many people on the ferry happy :)

Congratulations!

Typically you only get to wear that dress once, so I'd wear it ALL FREAKIN' DAY!!! Go for it! Like others have said, you will make people smile! (and you may even get a few well wishes!) :D

This is critical information. The marriage license needs to be obtained prior to the wedding. Be certain to look over it before leaving the Courthouse. Several people find numerous errors, including my wife's mother's maiden name being the same as my last name, incorrect dates, etc. When we politely brought it to the lady's attention she got quite short with us, like it was our fault. However, she corrected the errors nonetheless.

It is common for the individual officiating the ceremony to file the completed and signed license afterwards. In about two weeks the marriage certificate (copy of the license with the official USVI seal) will be mailed to you.

my wedding planner told me that "same day" courthouse visits are ok... everything has to be filed on the same date but that it does not have to be before the wedding ceremony. She indicated that it's common practice...? We are arriving late Saturday night and marrying early Monday morning so the courthouse hours don't really work for us.

I have never heard of same day visits.
I know that you can mail it all ahead and pick it up the same day you are getting married but I have never heard of anyone getting married and then getting a license.
I would love to know the rule on this, as I am a wedding planner and it would be helpful for my destination brides.

oh I'm sorry - we have already done the application and sent it in with a check. All that was already filed at court a while ago. I guess we just have to pick up the license (or do whatever you have to do with a photo ID at the courthouse) that day?

Both of my daughters were married on st. John (Ann Marie officiated). They both were required to get the license before the ceremony. They had to bring it to the ceremony where Ann Marie signed it and took care of registering them, etc. Unless things have changed, I think you better get the license before the wedding.

You need the license before the ceremony and then are required to present the signed license back at the courthouse for the certified copies of your marriage certificate - the minister is required to sign it at the ceremony.

OK, you are just submitting your signed license........phew :) Your minister can do that for you (I think for $50) and I suggest you have them do that for you so you can relax :)

Congratulations
