We had our special dinner at Zozo's. The best view of the sunset is from the bar, which we loved, but you might not find it intimate enough for an anniversary dinner, I don't know. We made reservations online 30 days in advance and specified the bar. We had a really wonderful dinner.

That said, our favorite dinners on the island occurred at Shipwrecks. (But we didn't try Asolare, Rhumb Lines, or La Plancha - all of which we would try to get to next time!)

Thank you, Need2 - it is going to be a tough decision for sure. Hadn't thought about going out to Shipwreck...I think I will put that on our list of restaurants to choose from. :)

Codon - For a special occasion I'd probably do something fancier. We loved eating at the bar at Shipwreck and talking with the bartender (Donna) and everybody else hanging around there, but it was not fancy (although the food was). I wore a casual dress to Zozo's (mostly because I had a pretty sunburned tummy and the dress felt better than shorts) and my H wore khaki shorts a Hawaiian shirt and sandals and we were dressed perfectly.

We did our 10th at Asolare, 15th at the sky top place on Tortola and our 20th at Zozo's.

I think both Asolare and Zozo's are great; especially for the sunset views. For a really great meal, sans view, head to La Tapa.

If you think about it, even toast on St. John is special:)

Thnx Need2 - glad to read the casual clothes were ok. Especially the sandals for men.

We also celebrated with a special meal at Zozo's. They booked a table for 2 along the rail in the restaurant, and took our reservation a long way in advance. The food and service were great. We also loved Rhumblines, but they don't have the view that Zozo's does.

The Equator at Caneel was very nice! The wife & I went there for our (one and only) formal dinner when we were on island for our honeymoon last July.

The Equator at Caneel! Definitely! Without a second thought, or atleast that would be my pick. It's my favorite spot in the world...if you can book a table at sunset that's the perfect time, if they dont open until after sunset, it's picture perfect(literally) to have a drink on the Sunset Terrace and watch the sun set over St Thomas and then go up to the Equator for an amazing dinner while watching St Thomas light up as it gets dark.

I vote for Caneel as I am a fan. You could turn the dinner into an outing.

I would go early to get a drink and sit up on the upper level terrace. There are lots of comfy places to relax and watch the sunset. Then I would go to dinner at the Equator.

If it is a night they have music, you could go back to the bar and listen to the music at the Beach Terrace.

Does the Equator have a water view as well? Couldn't tell from the pics, although I would think so??
