Tell me about August on STJ & need a 1 bedroom place...

Post by Coden »

Well, our 30th anniversary is in August, and we are kicking around the idea of going to STJ to celebrate.

So, a few things I know are: it is hot in August, and a lot of the restaurants are closed. But, on both accounts that is okay, as we'll be in the water mostly, and we like to cook our own meals, mostly.

What else do I need to know about August on STJ?

And, we are Coral Bay people, so we need hints on 1 bedroom units, with a/c in the bedroom. We are not fancy people. Just like things clean. :)

Thanks so much!!!

This August will be our third visit in three years, and we have always, and more than likely will always, go in August. (Yes, we're still newbies, but addicts as well. We've decided this will be an annual trip for us.) We go in August primarily because of my job. Sure, it's hot, but that's what the ocean's for. Sure, there may be some mosquitos, but that's why they make bug spray. Some restaurants are closed, but there are PLENTY of fantastic ones still open. And we LOVE that there are less people because of the off-season! Oftentimes we are the only ones on the beach du jour! Also, check out Sail View. We stayed there on our last visit and it was great. This year, we're trying out Coqui Cottage in Fish Bay.

We went in August and loved it (minus the crazy mosquitos). We arrived on island about 2 weeks after massive rains and it was quite overwhelming.

Other than that, it was great. It is quiet like a beach town after labor day but not dead like a beach town in november/december. Most everything was still open in August and lots of places were having sales to get rid of stuff.

The beaches are nice & quiet and the water is warm.

ENJOY! Take me!

I ran across this one recently -

Also, there is a forum member whose parents have a nice one-bedroom place in Coral Bay. I will search and report back.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the input and the house suggestions. I've just started a spreadsheet so I can list each house and then we can make our decision.

You all are the best!! :D

We stayed in a great one bedroom home in Coral Bay last May and it's called Wintermoon. Very modern kitchen, ac in bedroom and lots of space for two people. It was very affordable. It's the lower floor of a private home and the owners are very nice, but you don't get disturbed by them. It's situated a few minutes past Skinny's. Great views!

Tortola's Carnival is in August. We went to the parade one year and it was a blast!

As I recall, most of the restaurants on STJ were open in August. September and October are the months when most places close up.

It would be wonderful if you were there in Aug. We could finally meet. We'll be there Aug. 2 to the 16th.
It may be a little warm but it is delightful.

It's been mentioned before, but I'll second the recommendation - Sail View!

Hey Silverheels! We'll be there in that time frame too! I think Coden is planning that too and I just noticed on the VIOL calendar that Liamsaunt will be there too!! I smell a forum gathering at the Beach Bar!!! (would be a first for us since we always go in Oct. with not a forum soul to be found!!)
Hurry up August!! 8)

Silverheels - that would be awesome!!

Ok gang - here is another question. What about staying in Cruz Bay? My DH is wondering if we want to be where the bars/restaurants are. I don't know the answer to that. Are there rentals that are EASY walks to and fro in Cruz Bay or would we still have to drive or walk up and down big hills? Which I can tell you...ain't gonna happen with me. LOL

I am in talks with the Harmony people. Thank you PA Girl!! I love it there, and I am ready to push the button, but then DH brought up the question about staying in Cruz Bay.

So, what are your thoughts? I guess we aren't tied to Coral Bay after all...I am, he's not, we both have a say...so, we are still looking for a nice cute little place, nothing fancy, just clean. :)
