We are heading north up 95 this summer and I have the idea to stop in Mystic for two or three nights but I am having trouble finding a place to stay.
Our plans are to visit the seaport and the aquarium.
The typical chain hotels would not be my first choice. I was rather shocked by the prices, $275+ for the ones I looked at. Ideally, we like to support locally owned places and prefer to stay somewhere we can walk to dinner and around town.
The smaller places all seemed to be booked for the weekends. We cannot avoid the weekend, our travel plans are already set.
So, anyone have any recommendations? I would definately consider other towns close by but I know nothing about that area and don't know where to start.

Yep, that is what I am finding out.Pat wrote:I've stayed at the Marriott Mystic. It's very nice but not walking distance to town. Hard to believe but for a major attraction like Mystic Seaport there's not much of a selection of lodgings. Check out the town of East Lyme, CT. Nearby but again not walking distance.
Stonington is very close to Mystic. It's a cute town on the water, marinas and so on. Maybe look there? My parents lived there when they were first married and liked it. I found this inn that looks cute--I did not check rates or availability:

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

This must be a popular place, someone else also recommended it but it is booked.sailorgirl wrote:There is a lovely inn in Niantic called "The Inn at HarborHill Marina." prices are much better then what you quoted. the peole who run it are lovely, nice breakfast included as is an open fridge in the parlor stocked with beer and wine and snacks.
I just sent the deposit for a B & B in town. We wanted someplace we could walk to the touristy stuff and it looks like it will suit us for two nights.
We are going to Block Island after Mystic. Trip report soon come!
