Vegetarian restaurant suggestions for newbies?

Post by mahojim »

I know, I know...
I've overlooked this topic plenty of times.
But, as much as My Sweet Amy loves her Tofu Scramble at DD, she still eats pork, chicken & seafood, so there's plenty of options for her on vaca.
However-
Just found out that the newbies we're meeting up with on STJ next week have a vegetarian in the couple. She'll eat seafood, I believe, but will be asking for advice regarding veggie burgers, tofu, etc... in/around Cruz Bay.
There was a GREAT little spot in Wharfside @ 25 ft. passed the Westin Booth across from the G-Spot, kinda', that had an amazing mexican style vegetable breakfast burrito a few years back...can't seem to remember the name, though.
Any help is grately appreciated, and hoping you wonderful folks get to meet Beth & Steve(said newbies...) at the Beach Bar 5/8...
If so, remember to wish them a Happy Anniversary!
Thanks again, and always
Smiles-
MJ

i know that banana deck has a veggie burger and rumblines has a pad thai that i thnk they can sub in tofu for the shrimp--basically most everywhere hs seafood options so if your friend eats seafood they should be just fine--I have never had an issue eating on st john--even at skinnys (can you say grilled cheese please?)

I believe Skinny Legs has a veggie burger, also on the Coral Bay end, Sweet Plantains has many vegetarian options. I think their menus are online and change depending on the night of the week.

We are vegetarians (plus have gluten and dairy issues) and found that by calling ahead almost all the restaurants made amazing meals for us that fit all our needs!

Particular favorites were La Tapa, High Tide and Waterfront Bistro. Equator always has a veggie option.

yep they do --though the last time i had it, i wasn't too impressed by the skinny veg burger (hence the grilled cheese)
and sweet plantains has veg options, but you really should go on the curry evening(s)--I was really disappointed in veg options other nights (mind you this was a year and a half ago--so....

Thanks, everyone.
I'm sure that there are plenty of options, but I've never really bothered to look before.

I responded on the 'other' forum...but here you go!

Almost anyplace you go will have a handful of menu vegetarian options. And most places are very accommodating with making something special. She won't have any problems :) I was at Spyglass a month or so ago for dinner and they had a few really nice vegetarian choices on their menu. I was shocked to see they had a seitan dish.

One place I would tell her to try and go is Forward to Your Roots. They do lunch and it's some really amazing Ital food. I could eat their lentil balls all day long. They are on the street that is next to the basketball courts, across from the post office. It's a little colorful 'shack' on the right hand side of the road. It's not far, just past the basketball courts.
