Need thoughts, prayers and advice on booking last minute!

Post by Nic in KC »

Hey all,

If you've followed our saga of trying to have a child, you know we are now trying to adopt. We have had a birth mother choose us and if things go well the baby is due mid June! We will go to an ultrasound with bmom this Thursday and would appreciate thoughts and prayers for a healthy little one! J and I can also use prayers for our sanity!

Our St. John trip is scheduled for July 14th, I'm pretty sure we won't be able to take the baby and I don't think we'll be wanting to go without the baby! However, we can't cancel our trip until after the baby is born because if the birthparents change their mind, we will NEED to be sipping painkillers for 10 days straight!

Here is the advice part...do you use any website to book last minute trips? We are thinking of maybe trying to get away for a 4-5 day trip somewhere in May so we can have a little vacation, but we need to find a deal since we don't know if we will be spending our money on St. John in July. Does that make sense?

Thanks for your input and prayers!

First of all, congrats! I truly hope this works out for you.

While I haven't actually booked through the site, I have often check Amex for flight/hotel packages.

If waiting a bit in an option, we had wonderful trips (by plane) when our son was 3.5 (to Gulf coast of FL) and 4.5 months (STJ) old. It was a great age - totally portable!

Prayers, suggestions on booking last minute

Post by sandollar »

Prayers and good thoughts are going your way for a successful outcome all around! We haven't booked last minute but have had good luck with amex, however. A short STJ trip sounds like a good option and a wonderful diversion for you both. Best of luck and please keep us posted!

No experience to share, but we're sending wishes for a healthy baby in your arms, right when you're hoping for him/her!

Nic that is wonderful news! My thoughts and prayers to you for a healthy baby and a smooth adoption process.

I think I'd try to move the STJ reservations up to take place in May. The villa owner/mgmt firm should be willing to work with you as these are very special circumstances. You'll probably pay a fee to change the flights (unless you have trip insurance) but worth it.

Here's looking forward to you spending a happy summer at home with your new baby! Please keep us all posted.

Nicolle,
God bless your adoption efforts! Last year, I went through this process with my niece. My niece was the birth mother and gave her baby girl for adoption. It was such a comfort to my niece to meet the adoptive parents and to know her daughter was in good hands. The adoption process was painful for her, but they were so kind to her.
I don't have any advice on last minute trips. I have often wanted to do a trip last minute since you can get some deals. I notice on villa websites they list last minute discounted deals.
Keep us posted!

First, congratulations! I hope things go well at the U/S - it is an amazing experience.

Second, we did a very last minute trip a couple of years ago in April. I think we had two weeks' notice or so. Caribbean Villas has a really good "Last Minute Deals" section on their website. We got a unit at Cruz Views for around $100 a night, and then found airfare separately.

If you aren't specifically tethered to St. John, you could always use Cheap Caribbean (search specials from your city) or Travelzoo for last minute ideas. As you know, the only resorts on the island tend to be quite pricey, so getting a last minute deal from a villa/rental agency/owner is probably your best bet.

We liked our stay at Cruz Views. Not fancy, but so convenient and perfectly adequate for a short stay.

Thanks for the support and prayers! We are starting to think if we can get away for a short trip, it may not be St. John. Airfare is horribly high for horrible times! It might just not be worth it.

We have others in our group that will still make the trip in July so they will just pay the four person villa rate and keep our reservations if we are at home parenting! :-)

We'll see what happens at the ultrasound tomorrow, who knows, she could be due earlier than expected!
