Car ferry info?
Questions are coming fast and furious, now that the trip's around the corner! Is there anything we should know about the car ferry?
We've printed out Pia's directions (thanks, Pia!!!). I know to buy a one-way ticket, not round-trip because you may get a different company for the return trip.
Which ferry should we try to catch, on the return, for a 1:00 flight (Amalie car rental)?
Can you get a drink on the trip over to St. John, on the car ferry? Or should we stay in the car? Will our luggage be safe, in the car, if it's locked?
Thanks again, forum! You're all so helpful!

We head over to STT early..just to be on the safe side so I would say the 8:30 ferry??? Others that are a little more daring might say otherwise. Amalie will be right there at the door saving a spot for you to unload so once you are at the airport, returning the vehicle won't be an issue at all.
I think your luggage would be safe if you got out of the car..we usually just stay put but that is because we have 3 little ones to tote along
One note: depending on how busy it is they can really pack the cars in and there isn't much room to navigate. I saw one family trying to make their way around and it was tricky for them.
I just learned this past trip there is a place to buy cold drinks on the right as you approaching the ferry... wish I had noticed it years ago

Just show up at the car ferry and get on the next one leaving - just don't miss the last one because they don't wait.
Make sure you park in line ready to reverse on to the ferry - you can always tell the newbies - a parking lot full of locals all in the reverse position and the newbies all facing front looking at us like we are crazy
If you want to take a beverage on with you there is a new little store in the parking lot - don't worry fins it's not been open long
Roanoak does have a bar (it's the only one that does) but it has not been open for a long time.

We seem to be in the same situation- our first ride on the car ferry too.
Is there a post somewhere with directions from STT to the entrance to the ferry? It's hard to tell by looking at the map which is the easiest/quickest way to go.
Please post pics- we'll be doing a few days after you
