Tailgating/Gallon sized painkiller recipe please..
Tailgating/Gallon sized painkiller recipe please..
I have seen a couple different painkiller recipes...
One has OJ to Pineapple at 1:1, the other is 1:4...
What is your preference, and what are the mixing sizes ratios for a gallon jug?
Pineapple Juice
Orange Juice
Cocoa Lopez
(will add rum per drink)
Do you add anything else to the mix and can you freeze the mix initially to keep for travel?

yes- you can make ahead- just shake it really good on Sat.
I have done both recipes- heavy pineapple and 1:1- I like them both!
Not sure the total pours to make a gallon- I usually just keep adding until it's full- I plan to make mine with the rum in it though. May be strong
Happy tailgating- hope to see you there!

Hey SO...have you made the gallon jugs before and do you find the rum mixes well throughout? Wasn't sure, so I was just going to add it per glass, but would be easier to just have it in there...

Yep- works great with the rum pre-mixed- I plan to make 2 gallons You can still make it early, but try to do it Friday if you can.
Haven't decided which one of these recipes I am going to make:
BB version:
1 part pineapple
1 part Coco Lopez
1.5 parts OJ
1.5 parts dark rum
SDB version (I think- this is my "traditional" version:
4 parts pineapple
1 part Coco Lopez
1 part OJ
2-2.5 parts dark rum
Leaning towards my traditional recipe..... more rum, less Coco Lopez. Love them both! Happy mixing.....

Steve S has the right idea. That is the recipe from the Nutmeg Starter Kit (http://www.stjohnspice.com/moregifts.htm - halfway down page) from St. John Spice!
We use a combination of dark rum, guava rum, and mango rum
We actually made a gallon last Friday night and shared with friends. mmm...mmm...good!

Deb's Official Recipe
http://livedelifeusvi.blogspot.com/2007 ... e-kit.html
1 part cream of coconut, 2 part dark rum, 4 part pineapple juice, 1 part orange juice. I use a gallon jug, 48 oz can of pineapple juice, 12 oz of orange juice, 750 ML of Dark Cruzan Rum (it's about 25 oz - so close enough), 12 oz of Coco Lopez (the can is usually 15 oz, so I just use most of the can). Before adding the Coco Lopez, sit the can in a bowl of hot water, let it sit until it sounds liquefied when shaken. This keeps the little white specks of coconut from forming. Don't forget to garnish with fresh grated nutmeg. Enjoy!

PS You can get the nutmeg and grater shown above at St John Spice http://stjohnspice.com/
My wife is an expert at this.

Do you notice a big difference using Dark Rum vs Coconut Rum? I don't usually buy Dark Rum and was just going to use what I had on hand..(Coconut)..
ps..I like using Steve's recipe using the can to measure..makes it easy, etc..
