Boat trip with 4 year old

Post by lablover »

We will be making our 6th visit to STJ in May. I will be traveling with husband and 4 year old son. We're pretty adventurous and in the past have found most of our adventures on island although we've been out once with Captain Phil and another with Cathy to the Indians and Willy T's (?). I really want to go to JVD this trip and trying to figure out the best way to do this with a 4 year old. We considered the ferry but that seems pretty expensive for what you get. I would rather pay more and get more. Any suggestions?

we've done both...with kids! We did Captain John Brandi (Palm tree charters) and my youngest was 4. We also did the ferry last year, youngest was 5. If all you want to do is hit soggy dollar bar for the day (and foxy,s etc)...then do the ferry...you get about 5 hours on island!Cheaper too.

Palm tree charters was a GREAT day. We did several stops before ending at soggy dollar bar. I will say....I was more on edge to make sure my crazy 4 year didn't go overboard. He had a life jacket on...but still! Also...snorkeling in the middle of the "deep ocean" with a small child can be intimidating!

both days were great! in different ways!

We chartered Motor Yacht Cinnamon Bay for our last trip. Our son was 4 yo at the time and we were so pleased with the boat and the crew. It was very relaxing. We snorkelled at Waterlemon, had lunch a lobster place on Jost and then moved to White Bay.

The size of the boat made for a very comfortable trip. Our son went bonkers for the pirate stuff they had on board. It was the perfect trip for him.

Welcome to the Forum! I have nothing to add to the responses but love your name as I'm a lab lover too :) I have a yellow and a black lab - both rescues and both are about 2.5.

Have a great vacation!

Thanks for the feedback. I am a bit nervous about the kiddo going overboard and concerned that he would get ansty on a private charter boat. Plus we would have to snorkel individually because we wouldn't want to take our son in the water with us. We're good swimmers but it's best to have a buddy. I think we may just need to plan a day on JV via da ferry. Thanks again for the info.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been lurking around for years ;). Yes, I love labs. I've rescued and fostered a good handful of labs over the years. They are amazing creatures.

Thanks for the info. I like the size and layout of the boat. I'll check it out.
