Gift for waitress

Post by AquaGirl »

You all are always so full of good ideas, I thought I would bring this question here.

Last year, when we stayed at Peter Island, one of our waitresses was from the island of Dominica. We chatted with her about our trip some years ago to Dominica. We mentioned how much we liked the Refresh soap that was made there, but couldn't buy it at home. She seemed to enjoy talking about her home island. Several days later, she showed up at our breakfast table with a paper bag full of refresh soap. We were so surprised and blessed by her kind gesture.

We are going back to Peter Island this year and want to bring a little gift from the U.S. She was probably in her low 30s, married and has a young child. Any ideas on what might be a nice gift (small enough to easily fit into luggage!) I will bring a toy or book of some sort for her child too.

Thanks!

My first thought would be something consumable from VA. Is there anything regional to take like candy or honey?

For the little boy - My son loves his Schleich animals. They are high quality plastic/rubber animals and come in many, many species. Perhaps a book and a couple of toy animals portrayed in the book.

Our local Target carries the animals and we have found them at lots of small toy stores too.

Usborne is a book company that I like. The phonics reader series is good. Even if the child isn't close to reading yet, the illustrations are beautiful and the wording is fun to read aloud.

For example, get the Fat Cat book and two or three animals to go along with it - a cat, dog and a pig. Our son likes to act out the stories with the animals.

We get our books at a local toy store and I suspect independent bookstores would carry them.
