Our favorite is a little place on the beach just north of La Jolla called the Poseiden. http://www.poseidonrestaurant.com/ Hope you like seafood! La Jolla has several rooftop eateries with great views. The Coronado Hotel has some great restaurants and is a great place to watch sunset. The GasLamp district is fun and easy to walk around and has some good restaurants too. Touring of the aircraft carrier is amazing. The Harbor House is pretty good too. Seaport Village...not so much...fun to walk around, but the food is really fast food and lots of souviner shops.

Will you have a car?

Defintely the Poseidon!

Just north of downtown is "Old Town" and some of the best Mexican restaurants you'll ever find! I love The Old Town Mexican Cafe (you can watch them make their own tortillas), but my husband, Rick, doesn't think it's all that great. WhatEVER!

Also in Old Town is the Whaley House! The Travel Channel counts it as Americas #1 Haunted House! I've never wanted to pay the $10 or so to get in, but I'll have to break down and do it one of these days!

Now that I have a job, I won't be able to get together with you for lunch! How disappointing!! Grr! :(

We are staying in/near the Gaslamp. Are La Jolla and/or Old Town cab-able?

Those are great suggestions! Thanks.

I have been 1x before, for a week, but worked almost the entire time and got to see La Jolla (didn't eat there just saw the caves and park) and Coronado.

Old Town & Coronado are definitely cab-able, but La Jolla would be a very expensive ride! The weather out her is FABULOUS now, you're going to have a great time! You probably won't need a coat, but bring a sweater or light jacket.

When we were out there we drove to La Jolla and parked in a lot just south of the pier and walked past the pier to a college campus (UC San Diego?). Walked up a hill and sat on a park bench and watched the surfers and the sunset while we enjoyed some bread, cheese, and wine.

Highly recommended!

I like Balboa Park--the zoo and the garden--there are many other things to do there as well. But I remember those the best. Went there for Spring break a long time ago.

I second Balboa Park Musuems and the Zoo. I alos enjoyed touring the Midway, but that was a 4-5 hour affair.

LaJolla is lovely, I'll try to recall the place hubby took me for our anniversary when we were out there in 2009.
