another wierd critter question

I was just looking at pics from our last trip and remembered a hike up Peace Hill, where there were one inch holes all over the top of the hill outside the old sugar mill tower...I think I asked before what they were and someone said spider holes? I was surprised since there were A) so many and B) they were pretty BIG! I am not particularly phobic about critters but I had a flash of a crazy visual if they were indeed spiders and they all came out at once when you were up there--could make for a very interesting walk/hop back down the hill! Anyone know if the spider tale is true? (If so I might avoid this one at night!!)

They are tarantula holes.

I have the feeling that the next time I have a nightmare, that's going to be it....

I've never seen these holes, or these spiders. I plan to continue the same...
