Car rental

Post by Figgy »

One week to go. Our 21st consecutive trip to St. John! First time to rent at the airport. Spouse is starting to panic about having car problems on St. John. Anyone have any experience with breakdowns and how to handle the hassle?

Figgy,

Twenty-first trip to STJ! Reminds me of how many people here in Oregon go to Zihuatanejo Mexico year after year because it's comfortable to know what to expect in a vacation. Myself, I like adventure, but we are returning to STJ in 2 months for our wedding anniversary because it is such a beautiful and special place.
We rent our vehicle on STT because we like to shop at Cost-U-Less before we ferry over. We have used Dependable car rental before, and were very pleased with their service, but their vehicles are older. We never had any mechanical problems, so cannot remark on what to do IF, but we try not to take that conjunction with us on vacations.
This year we are renting from Budget at the airport because we received a discount code that made them competitive with the non-airport rentals. I expect their vehicles will be in better (read newer) condition.
If something goes wrong with the vehicle, deal with it then...an offer of beer goes a long way in recruiting help.
Life is an adventure.
Treasure each moment.

Figgy, We have rented at the airport for the past 3 years, this will be our 4th. We rented from Budget the first time and although the customer service left a lot to be desired..the vehicle held up just fine. Since then, we have rented from Amalie Car Rental. I cannot say enough good about them!! Brand new vehicles and a wonderful couple. I would find it hard to believe they would leave you high and dry if by chance you did break down.
