airfare rates

Post by brenda »

So depressing. When I first started looking at air fare for STT a couple of months ago, it was around $500 RT with taxes and fees. Now it is well over $700. BTW, the flight would be from Detroit to STT. Hope it might go down a little or is this sadly going to be the trend? Might have to work some overtime  .

Not sure what your dates are but we ran into the same thing out of Detroit and finally had to go with Spirit Air...not our first choice by any means but so much cheaper it ended up being worth it. Good luck to you!

I'm with you on sticker shock currently. We started looking at July from Buffalo and are finding prices in the $500range if we don't mind taking 3 legs one way on continental including cape air, or 4 legs one way from American. Anything getting in at a decent time with only 2legs looks to be $700-1000.

I'm waiting to see what spirit has but they're not posting times for July yet.

When I read posts like someone wrote that they got $300 r/t from LA I'm amazed and jealous!

We are having to drive 10 hrs to Miami to get a $250 rate. Last year we drove to Atlanta(5 hrs)and spent money on a motel twice to get $350. We have family in West Palm or we wouldn't do that. We are really looking for Southwest to expand!!!

We are finding the same issues now, as well. We travel A LOT and are now paying at least $100.00/pp more than we did last year. No matter where we are going or which airline we are using.

Small example:

Back in November, I booked January r/t flights to Sarasota for me (from Madison) and my two daughters (from Detroit) on Delta and the total cost, for the THREE of us was less than the r/t flight I just booked for me alone, for March.

Missing St. John. As always.

Hey Toni we got tickets on US Air out of Rochester in the low $400's. If your dates are flexible they will show you what the best combination days are. We are doing a flight out on a Thurs. and back on a Monday. Good luck!

I expect that until things stabilize in the middle east, especially Egypt, that air fares will continue to rise or at best stay elevated.

For the first time since 1999 we had to forego our first day (Saturday) and fly down on Sunday to save over $400.00. That's crazy...my gosh what will the tickets cost next year?

I just looked on Spirit and it is $491 with taxes and fees, hmmmm. I know nothing about Spirit Airlines. What are the downsides?

lots of posts about spirit here and on TA. Some good, alot bad, but like you say, what the heck.

Quick question, we've been booking Saturday to Saturday for our villa since we started going to STJ. Flights are alot cheaper if we avoid the weekends and go mid-week to mid-week. Do many of the villas rent out mid-week to mid-week?

Next year we abandoned our PR surf trip around the holidays.....we also dumped the kids. My wife and I will go alone for two weeks in January, mid-week arrival/departures, its significantly cheaper. Might not be as easy on STJ though....

I am so glad I went ahead and booked a few weeks ago. I was getting ready to book about a month ago and that day the prices went up then they came back down for a day so booked. Our family will be heading to STJ in July for our first visit. We are flying out of EWR on a Thursday for 376.00 per person a great rate. Good luck to everyone else, hopefully the prices will drop soon for you all.

We haven't had a problem with doing that, not so far anyway. There are a few that I've run across that either don't let you move the days or charge more to do so, but they seem to be the exception rather than the rule from my experience.
Come see us!
