Grootpan and Kiddle

Folks, tell me about Grootpan and Kiddle. They look really interesting.

We have always snorkeled Kittle by going to the right toward Grootpan. It is a deep water snorkel much like the Salt Pond snorkel around to the Blue Cobblestone Beach. Interesting rock formations and coral. As you approach the point it starts to taper off and there seems to be less to see as you approach Sea Spirit Villa above you. There always seems to be a nurse shark sleeping in the center of the bay by a mooring anchor.

The road down to Kittle can be a little iffy. With the recent rains depending on how you are 4 wheeling it might be wise to park up top and take the short walk down.

We have only snorkeled to the right at Grootpan and found it kind of uninteresting on that particular day. It is a fascinating beach though and my avatar is actually a stone sculpture from the beach there. Perhaps going to the left might be more interesting but remembering how it tapered of going toward Grootpan from Kittle we doubt it.

We hit Grootpan last week, while there. Just took the Jeep all the way down. Boy, the only people at Grootpan are those who REALLY want to be there because it is not an easy trek. Very brushy and narrow and the whole way down, I was envisioning scratches all over the Jeep but we ended up with none! We were the only ones there the entire time and LOVED it. It's mostly a rocky beach but with a decent sized spot of rough sand right in the middle, which is where we perched. Beautiful cliff type rocks on the sides, which we scaled and got some extraordinary pictures. I think it's the most natural, rustic, beach setting yet. Didn't snorkel there, just took in the massive serentiy there. That just may be my favorite beach day while on STJ.
