Sanibel / Captiva

Post by patr »

We will be going to SW Florida next week. I scored a great last-minute deal on a beachfront condo. We are going to have my 80 year olds in-laws in tow. Looking for dining and activity suggestions. Want to keep it casual.

I was thinking about a day cruise on Captiva Cruises. Any other ideas?

If you do a search for Sanibel on this forum, you'll find a post I did a couple of years ago with some suggestions! It seems there are several on here who love that area!

Sanibel/Captiva

There was a thread on here in Oct/Nov. I get to Captiva at least once a year.
Really like the Mad Hatter on Captiva--easy access but a little pricy. Indoor dining.Saw plenty of oldsters there.
Doc Ford's on Sanibel was nice for a casual meal.
Mucky Duck is nice Brittish Pub style food inside and has outdoor seating with beer/wine for the sunset. Plenty of oldsters around. Right on the beach for a great sunset.Very end of Captiva.
The Crow's Nest( casual) and the Old Captiva House( pricy) at the Tween Waters Inn has nice accessible dining. They have a very nice breakfast in the Old Captiva House too, without much walking. Nice little gift shop there.
I do remember eating at the Thistle Lodge on Sanibel at least 10 years ago and it was one of the best meals I have ever had--anywhere. Pricey, though. This was back in the good old days before retirement for DH and I.

Sanibel

I love Sanibel! I go almost every year and it never gets old. You MUST go on the Sanibel Thriller for their dolphin trip, it is fantastic. On Captiva go to the Bubble Room for fun (and desserts that are to die for...Orange Crunch Cake is something else), and catch sunset at the Mucky Duck. If you have some money looking to be spent, charter a boat and go to Cayo Costa for fabulous shelling. There are lots of restaurants on the island to satisfy every taste and budget. Have fun!!!
