Charlotte is a delightful airport compared to Philly!
I hope to never have the misfortune of travel through there again after my one and only experience of going through that hub. I was trapped there for 3 days due to the weather - I do NOT blame them for the weather, but the lack of organization, advance planning and plain old kindness and compassion for people trapped in a bad situation was simply appalling. Most of the airport employees went home leaving passengers to fend for themselves. The few that were left were scalping food for outrageous prices. There was an utter lack of management or even good sense so I can't imagine what would happen if a REAL disaster ever occurred there!

Hi all,

Thanks so much for all the input. So long as rates stay the same today, I think we are going to go ahead and book. We'll be on an early flight and US Air shows later ones are available too so hopefully we'll be ok.

PSU: The rate is 550.00pp with one stop at this point. Out of KC, the lowest we've paid since 2006 was 510, so we are used to paying high airfare.

Puddlejumper: Somehow I missed that you are no longer living in StJ. I hope you are doing well in AZ! Sorry to know we won't be sharing a worship service on island this time!

Live in Charlotte and have flown to STT at least 8-10 times with no problems, I don't think ever. (knock on wood). In fact they almost always arrive in STT 15-20 minutes early.

It is a great airport. I highly recommend the Chicken Caesar sandwich on an Asiago cheese bagel "to go" at the bagel place near the end of the D concourse (where you depart for Caribbean). One of my favorite parts of our trip! Sooooo yummy!

We always pay in the mid to upper 500's out of KC to STT. This year we were lucky to find Delta for 480. Lowest price in 5 years. So, I guess we'll deal with Atlanta.

The USAir flight from Charlotte to STT is very reliable. That was our problem, our flight to CLT was delayed by weather on the ground in CLT. We were hoping that it would also bump all the departing flights back so that we could make the STT flight. Unfortunately, the STT fight went on time when the airport reopened and we weren't there to get it. So, if you're going through CLT, I would try to book an early flight into CLT to give yourself plenty of buffer if you first flight is late.

i love the eggs and bacon breakfast washed down with ice cold beers at 8:30 in the morning at chilli's. It has become tradition for us in Charlotte.
