Hi All- Newbie here, Question Re: Casa Del Sol STJ

Post by bdkane »

Of course - Id like to start by saying HI! and let you all know how much I enjoy this forum. The info one gets here is invaluable.

I first visited STJ in Aug 2010 and became "hooked" right away(more like obsessed) -that is when I began lurking on the forum - "must find more info"... We were fortunate enough to make it back to STJ in Nov 2010 and we are now planning another trip to STJ with some friend in Aug 2011.

We are considering staying in Casa Del Sol and were wondering if anybody had any recent experiences staying there they would share? (I did notice a member is there NOW - soooo jealous!)

I recall passing the villa while on our previous trip and thinking it was close to the road? would anyone know if it is? if so is there any issue with road noise?

Also, in Nov we stayed in Reef Madness in Coral Bay, (We were lucky and missed all that rain in Nov), many people in Coral Bay told us that the Fish Bay area was really HOT, does any one know this to be true? should I request the owners add a/c to the main house before my visit :)

- is it August yet?

Anyway, all info would be greatly appreciated-

Thank you much!
John

Hey bdkane!
Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you've been bit by the STJ no-see-um and this is a great place to scratch the itch!
Casa Del Sol looks incredible! If it was built on the side of the freeway, I would stay there!! :P
As long as you have a/c in the bedrooms you should be just fine. It looks like you won't get direct sunrise from that angle anyway.
I'll be there in Aug. 2011 too so if you need me to come over and chill out at your shack for a few days or so, just let me know!!
I've got 2 tickets to paradise~Pack your bags we'll leave tonight!

Welcome to the Forum!

We have stayed at Casa 6 times before it was off the rental market and will happily be staying there in May for 2 weeks.

We visited it last week while we're here on island. It's a wonderful villa. It is right on the road and you will hear trucks going down into fish bay but it's never been a problem for us.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you all for the welcome, and YES, I have been bitten! Last night my 9 year year old daughter saw me on the forum and was like "OMG... - DAD - enough with St John" I told her its "therapy" "Now go to bed! :) "

I thought I recalled seeing Casa Del Sol just off the road while heading toward Fish Bay,
I recall seeing Casa entrance right from the road... I'm hoping road noise wont be an issue for we will most likely spend days wandering the island not getting back to the villa until late afternoon.

NancyB, Could you tell me what is in the lower level of the main house? Was everything in working order while you were there? (hot tub) Belive it or not - my wife love a good hot tub - even if it is 90 degrees outside :D
Did you notice that new stone/stucco home being built just off the road in the same area- stunning

Thanks

I have spent almost every Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day - well all holidays actually, there for the last 4 years as our good friends lived there until the villa sold.

Unfortunately I have not visited Casa since it sold last May/June (I think) so have no idea what changes have been made. The pool furniture looks different in the photos and I don't know if any changes were made to the windows as there were no screens in the main house (actually no windows at all) so when mosquito swarms were out it was nasty in the tv/kitchen/dining room - also there was no doors on the main home - well there were but they (3 of them) are the large hurricane doors. All bedrooms have a/c and have screens/windows.

Many a great time with found memories of Casa. Hope this helps.

PLEASE no mosquito attacks - they ruined a "fancy" dinner night for myself and my wife while in Aruba! We were outdoors at a nice restaurant when the rain came barreling in, it was over in 5 minutes but then THEY CAME, we couldn't even breath without inhaling them- GROSS
The website says they have screen in the main house now - I hope its correct, BUT I will be sure to stock up on bug spray just in case - thanks for the heads up :D

Casa Del Sol is beautiful. There are so many places
to sit outside and enjoy the amazing view. The two
bedrooms that are downstairs are the same as the
ones upstairs, but your view might be better up.
There is a bathroom right by the pool along with
a bar area.
We might have heard some trucks, I can't remember,
but I do not remember being bothered by them.
It is a great house and I would be renting again,
but already have our reservations for the summer.
It has been 5-6 years since we were there.
