Surprise birthday trip...need more help

Post by PSUWethr »

I have finally gotten hubby's vacation approved for September when he turns 40 (old man). He thinks we are just going to chill out at home, but I have made other plans. We are going to STJ for 13 days, but what he doesn't know is that he and I will sneak away to a private place for 4 nights while we are down there. After some research I have come up with going to Peter Island or Little Dix. I need some help from my forumites on which to pick. They both seem to have private beachfront rooms/villas and that is what I am looking for. Any adivce or opinions are appreciated!

What a great surprise and trip! We went to Little Dix for my husband's 40th 3 years ago and LOVED it. We had a very private room steps from the beach. Fantastic. Service was unbelievable and the spa was awesome. Very spoiled. Easy just to stay at the resort the whole time, but we did sneak out to go to the Baths and other parts of the island. I can't speak personally for Peter Island, but my sister went there for her honeymoon and they loved it, too. I think you have 2 great choices!

My husband and I went to Peter Island in June of 2010 for a big anniversary and absolutely loved it. The things we loved are:
- The food and service were excellent. Lots of fresh fruit and salads and seafood. The staff really made us feel special. The breakfast buffet is ridiculously huge.
- Deadman's beach is beautiful.
- Great snorkeling off Deadman's beach and White Bay. Staying at a beautiful place with snorkeling right off the beach is important to us.
- Water sports on Deadman's beach were fun. We learned how to sail a little catamaran (with a lot of help from the attendant), and went sea kayaking.
- The pool was a lovely area with fabulous views over to Tortola and was really clean.
- Dive shop on island had snorkeling trips to places like the Indians. The divemaster snorkeled with us and pointed out things. Had a great snorkel with them.
- The resort had a very romantic feel.
- One night they had steel drum music on the beach during dinner at the beach restaurant. It was very fun as we love this type of music.
- We arranged to spend the day at White Bay (they take you by van since its on the other side of the island). Snorkeling was excellent. They assign you a shade hut with loungers, chairs and a table. They have someone bring your picnic lunch at an appointed time. It even included a tablecloth. We got such a kick out of someone trudging down the beach with a cooler and setting up the table for our lunch. (We only stay at nice resorts once in a while, so we enjoyed this type of service).
- The spa was wonderful - very expensive, but a lovely place and great massages.

Iowaguy has also been to PI and gave me good info, so he may chime in. Also lots of reviews on trip advisor.

We got a nice package on Luxurylink in 2010, but it was for a full week and Oceanview room (not beachfront). They told me they are going to have a LL package this year too.

Never been to Little Dix, but I have friends who loved it. I have heard that there is little to no snorkeling off the beach, so it would not be a place for us.

Happy trip planning!
