Anybody on island now that can report on water temps?

Post by lawmom »

We are headed down to STJ next week and wondered how the water temps are right now. From what I can tell on weather.com, it looks like it's been colder than usual?

Water temps I believe are normal for this time of year approx 77-78 degrees (last year they were much warmer it never dropped like usual) but it is too cool for me - I won't go in again until May - April if I have to but most visitors find it comfortable :)

:( If it's too cold for you, I'm SURE it's too cold for me. March was a touch chilly but I adjusted quickly. Just got a short sleeve, short wet suit for snorkeling but don't know it that will do it..

It may be that April-October trips end up being the best time for us.

At Caneel today! Cool at first but OK once I got all wet!

Overall all, weather and water cooler than a year ago! But so much better than the snow and cold back home in IL!

We are here...got in Christmas Day. The water is colder, but once you are in it is fine. We went to Maho to snorkel but very windy and wavy, really couldnt see anything. We are hopeful the surf will be down tomorrow.

This kinda provides a technical answer: tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov.
There is a Caribbean tab and you'll find Lameshur Bay as option. It's around 79-82deg. Its probably alittle cooler on North Shore with all the high surf we've had.
