Day 5 – Caneel, Jumbie and Gus’ Arrival
We are all up early after sleeping off our wonderful dinners. We have our coffee in the pool (wow – it’s fun to just type that!) and come up with a plan. We are going to go to Caneel Bay for lunch then hit a beach for the afternoon.
Off we go, on the beautiful ride that never gets old.

We have a lovely lunch at Caneel and walk around a little bit soaking it all in.

Now, everyone at Caneel was absolutely lovely and I felt very comfortable having lunch there, but I just couldn’t see the 7 of us walking through the resort with our beach chairs and coolers to get to Honeymoon, even though we were told by an employee that it would be fine. So, we got our parking tickets “validated” at the front desk and headed to Jumbie. I have never been to this beach and we loved the “Lost” vibe walking the short walk through the “jungle”. There was a great fun group right at the entrance, enjoying their rum and each other’s company - they were a hoot! Other than that, there was only one other couple on the beach. We set up camp and enjoyed a lovely afternoon in the water.

Ahhhhhh. Life is good.

As late afternoon arrives, so do the no-seeums. That’s our cue to hit Woody’s for Happy Hour! Then we head back to the villa for a swim and shower. Tonight’s plan is to head to the Beach Bar for some appetizers and a few drinks while we wait for our late arriver, Gus, who is going to be on the 9:00 p.m. ferry. We got lucky and T-Bird was playing with another woman on guitar and Wanda on the drums. They sounded GREAT and as y’all know, the setting at the Beach Bar is pretty hard to beat. Gus arrives and we welcome him with Painkillers and a smile. A late night here, and much fun had all around.
Oh, a word here about our villa manager – DJ of Mystic Properties. He was absolutely fabulous! www.stjohnrentalvillas.com Because Southern Cross’ bedrooms all have king beds that cannot be split, I called DJ and asked if he knew where we could rent an air mattress so two guys who really don’t know each other didn’t have to share a king sized bed. DJ brought his own air mattress to the house and dropped it off before we got home from the beach. DJ is also manager at the Banana Deck and his customer service skills cannot be beat!!

I'm enjoying the heck out of your reports! Just wanted to 2nd your commendation of DJ - we rented Sea Cay last summer and he was great! The people we were with loved Banana Deck (we did too)- they have a type 1 diabetic son who is an extremely picky and the folks at BD were extremely accomodating to his requests.
