Electric keyboards any advice

Post by loria »

Forum friends--please come to my rescue once again and recommend a good electronic keyboard for my kids--we have an old (and very beat up ) piano that i tried to rescue years ago--but it is not worth tuning and --well...we cannot afford a real piano and neither kid is going to take lessons (yet.... 8) ) So, i am looking for something that is decent sized in terms of keys, and sounds reasonable but is around the 300-400 range.... does anyone have any recommendations about what i should be looking at? there are SO many out there....thanks!!!

I asked someone I know who knows a bit about keyboards...
this was his response, maybe a starting point for you.

"For a keyboard mainly to be used for a piano sound, I suggest this one with 76 full-size keys. There are better ones, including weighted 88-key ones, but those will be over $400, probably more like $800."

This one looks good but is listed at this store for $550.

My only advice would be to make sure they want it.

We spent a couple hundred on one as a surprise and no one really wanted to take lessons afterall.

So it comes out when friends come over and they just make noise.

@ Iprof--great advice! That first one looks just about perfect (maybe a little too nice!--but then i can play it too!) thanks for the links
@DJmom--yeah--they probably won't be concert pianists  and we' need a replacement proper piano... but noodling on a keyboard would still be better than sitting around playing xbox!

thanks guys!

Keyboard

I think the Casio keyboard is the best bet for the money. It has all the bells and whistles that make this keyboard so much fun. You may save on the keyboard but the lessons will be the expensive investment
